Robert Levy

Robert Levy is Professor of Music Emeritus from Lawrence University in Wisconsin where he was Director of Bands and trumpet instructor from 1979-2004. The following year he wasVisiting Professor at the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison, conducting the wind ensemble, concert band and served as Artistic Director for the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. He continues a busy schedule as guest conductor and composer, appearing throughout the country as guest artist and clinician. Recently released recordings as conductor include " Air Mosaic" (Mark Records); " Alec Wilder-"Music for Winds and Brass" (Albany Records), and his "One Night Suite" for jazz quintet among his forty recordings.

A leading proponent for new music and an advocate for American composers, he has premiered and/or commissioned more than 140 works, many written expressly for him. His recent works as composer include "Hymn Song for the Earth" for orchestra; "Tapestry" for band; and "Clemente" (honoring baseball great Roberto Clemente) for narrator, chorus, and strings. He has taught at Interlochen, Tanglewood, and numerous summer music festivals and music camps and wasthe founder and Music Director for the award winning Tidewater Music Festival in Maryland. He also toured Australia for the second time where he was a visiting Artist-in-residence at the National Music Conservatory in Cambria and conducted bands throughout the country. Recent  guest residencies brought him to three universities in China and to Haiti for three summers. He also has been a Red Lodge faculty member since 1971.
