William Scharnberg is a Regents Professor of Music at the University of North Texas where he has taught horn, chamber music, and brass pedagogy since 1983.  He is principal horn of the Dallas Opera Orchestra since1984 (performing over 80 operas), and has performed as principal horn of the Royal Opera Orchestra of Stockholm, Dallas Symphony, Dallas Bach Society, Fort Worth Early Music Society, Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, Missoula Chamber Orchestra, Flathead Festival Orchestra, Tri-City Symphony (Iowa-Illinois), Tacoma Symphony, Classical Music Seminar (Austria), and Breckenridge (CO) Festival Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist with regional orchestras, as a featured artist at three International Horn Symposia and several regional horn events, and recorded on the Crystal, Centaur, EcoClassics labels.  He earned the DMA degree at the University of Iowa and has taught at Central Missouri State University, Pacific Lutheran University, The University of Oklahoma, and the Royal Academy of Music-Stockholm.  He is currently the Editor of The Horn Call (journal of The International Horn Society) and has served the IHS as President (1990-92), Music Review Editor, and member of its Advisory Council.  His editions of eighteenth and nineteenth-century works for horn are published by McCoy’s Horn Library.  He has also been a frequent finalist in the Reader’s Digest and Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.
