Carl Rath, Bassoon

Carl Rath is Principal Bassoon in the OKC Philharmonic and Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma, teaching bassoon and Honors courses in Rock-and-Roll history, as well as The Beatles. He has been guest bassoon artist in several states, England, Austria, Hungary, Argentina, Taiwan, and China. Rath was Principal Bassoon with the Classical Music Festival orchestra in Eisenstadt, Austria for 17 summers and solo artist on three occasions. He is on five CDs, including the Oklahoma Woodwind Quintet’s A Christmas Delight. Rath is active as a clinician, specializing in classes for teachers, as well as bassoonists. His private studio in Oklahoma includes students of all ages, from middle school age and into retirement! He is a patron member of the International Double Reed Society and is often featured in concerts at the annual conferences; Carl is co-hosting the 2010 IDRS Conference at the University of Oklahoma. Carl enjoys arranging music for various instrumental combinations. This Spring, he performed a one-week residency with the Chinook Winds and delighted audiences with his 40-minute Beatles history for woodwind quintet, narrator, and video: REVOLUTION: An All-Ages Guide to The Beatles. Carl’s interest in rock music extends to working as orchestral advisor, arranger, and conductor for The NON, conducting ‘the #1 Beatles tribute band in the world’ 1964…the Tribute, and drumming with the classic rock band MidLife Crysis, which he formed in 1990. He has taught at the Red Lodge Music Festival since 1980.
