Joy. Zickau, Piano

A Seminole and Coushatta native, Joy Zickau is an active performer and composer, performing on piano, cello, and harp. Most recently she was commissioned by Dr. Jacqueline Wilson (Yakama) of Washington State University in 2024, by 208 ensemble in 2022 for a new work that premiered February 2023, and was the recipient of the American College Dance Associatation’s adjudicated conference award for her commissioned work by University of North Texas School of Dance in 2018.

After making her solo debut at the age of seven with the Eagle Symphony Orchestra, Joy has performed widely and has won numerous awards throughout her career, earning titles such as “Best Idaho Pianist,” “Most Creative Pianist,” and “Best Original Composition.” She studied under Dr. Del Parkinson – another faculty member here at Red Lodge Music Festival – before and during her collegiate career at Boise State University.
Joy is currently a faculty member at Whitworth University, teaching harp and performing with students and faculty. She is the current principal harpist of the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra and Washington-Idaho Symphony Orchestra, and also maintains a private studio in Spokane, Washington.
