Faculty

Cellist Brian Hodges is Professor of Cello and Coordinator of Chamber Music at Boise State University. He also performs on baroque cello as the principal cellist of the Boise Baroque Orchestra and a founding member of the Pendulum Early Music Ensemble. He is the author of the books ‘A Survey of Solo Works for the Violoncello’ and ‘Cello Secrets’, and has contributed regularly to ‘The Strad‘, ‘Strings‘, and ‘American Bach Society’ publications. As a concerto soloist, he has appeared with the  Oklahoma Baroque Orchestra, Boise Baroque Orchestra, the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, the Boise State University Orchestra, and this part year appeared with the Missouri Southern State University Orchestra performing the Elgar Concerto and John Williams ‘Elegy’. With his wife, pianist Betsi Hodges, he has given recitals across the United States and Italy. 

Before joining the faculty at BSU, he was on the faculties of the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University in Georgia, Spring Arbor University, and Albion College. He received his undergraduate and master’s cello performance degrees from the Eastman School of Music, and his doctorate in cello performance from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. He is currently at work on his third book about the cello music of John Williams.
