Joy Zickau

A Seminole and Coushatta Native, Joy Zickau is an active performer and composer, performing on piano, cello, and harp. After making her solo debut at the age of seven with the Eagle Symphony Orchestra, Joy has performed widely and has won numerous awards throughout her career, earning titles such as “Best Idaho Pianist,” “Most Creative Pianist,” and “Best Original Composition.” She studied under Dr. Del Parkinson and Dr. Brian Hodges – both faculty members here at Red Lodge Music Festival – before and during her collegiate career at Boise State University. Joy is faculty at Whitworth University, teaching harp, piano, and performing with students and faculty. She is the principal harpist of the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra and Washington-Idaho Symphony Orchestra, and also maintains a private studio in Spokane, Washington. She enjoys frequent composition commissions, and will have her most recent work published in collaboration with Connor Chee (Diné/Navajo) for his “Weaving Sounds” series featuring music by Native composers.
