Zach Harmon

Honor Jazz Combo & Percussion

Zach Harmon, percussion, was born into a musical family in Wisconsin. He began studying
classical piano at an early age up until transferring to percussion and eventually drum set in his
teens. He was principal chair percussionist for several years with the Oshkosh Youth Symphony
Orchestra before becoming a member of the Wisconsin Stare Honors Orchestra in 2002. In 2003,
Zach became a member of the Clifford Brown/Stan Getz All-Stars with whom he toured Japan
and performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival. In 2003, Zach went to the Thornton School of
Music at USC for two years where he focused on styles of Jazz, Brazilian and Afro-Caribbean
music before transferring to the performance-intensive Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (now
the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz). He has since recorded and toured internationally with
many artists and continues to freelance and teach privately.
